We appreciate you taking the time to star on this weeks “Interview of
the week” section on TejanoFM.com. Where fans get to read about the
thoughts and experiences of new tejano artist and the legends of the
industry. A place where fans can learn a bit of biography on their
favorite artist and get some entertaining insides on their careers.
Here’s a series of fun and informative questions we have just for you!
►
How long have you been in the tejano music industry?
►
We consider ourselves a team and like any team you have a mixture of veterans and rookies. The vets have been in the industry for about 25 years.
►
When was your first big break? What helped you get to where you are today?
►
Our first break was the third album "Como Nunca". We were signed to Sony Discos and had a string of hits from that CD alone. It was certified gold then platinum. That's where we got the nickname "the Golden Boys".
►
Were the "good old days" any different then they are now? If so what’s the biggest?
►
The biggest difference is the amount of money, adverstising and support that was being handled back then. People gave more and got more in return. People were paying the equivalent of $60 a head per show for one band and getting pyrotechnics, laser lights and stacked 5,000 people deep. People still expect to pay $10 and still expect there to be more than one band. Do the math.
►
You just released the album “Con La Misma Pasion”. What can you tell us about it?
►
Its Fama's first original release in a few years. There is a variety of songs from classic Tejano rancheras, classic cumbias, new-style rancheras, new-style cumbias and baladas. All the sounds Fama is known for but in new fresh songs.
1. Jamas Me Vuelvo A Quemar - written by Adolf Alonzo (bassist for La Mafia). Puro acordión ranchera
2. La Calma De Mi Corazon - also written by Adolf. This is a Norteño-flavored cumbia but with classic Fama sound & style
3. Sigo Soñando - written by Fernando Silva who wrote hits for David Olivarez "Soñador" & Negami. This is a Norteño ranchera
4. Que Mas Da - written by Israel Salazar who wrote hits for Emilio. A balada that has a slightly Alejandro Fernandez feel.
5. Sirveme Tequila - written by Paul Ybarra from La Fiebre. Classic Tejano ranchera. A drinking song for sure. This song went to #1 on many of the stations that played it. The first hit of the album! Thanks fans!
6. Lo Que Tu Me Das - written by John the guitar player. This is a keyboard-driven cumbia.
7. Arrancame El Corazon - written by Israel Salazar. This is a down-home fast-dancing ranchera. Slightly Tigres-style.
8. Dos Mujeres - written by Ray Castillo. This is a classic Fama cumbia. This song broke up his marriage and took 20 years before someone would record it!
9. Siempre Tu Seras - written by John the guitar player. This is a rock balada.
10. Cobardia - written by Goggis. This is a new-style fast cumbia in the style of Tito El Bambino

What’s the average time to produce an album from start to finish?
►
Hahaha...that's a good question. For every other band I'm sure it's about 3-6months but we took almost about a year because we did it using the best services from a number of studios. Most studios like to be a 'one-stop-shop' but we found some studios, for instance, don't have a great drum sound or aren't as great as others in mixing. So we recorded our drums in the studio that had the best drum sound. Mixed in the studio that had the best mixes and recorded bit parts at studios that were convenient.
►
Our you looking forward to any new album releases from other artist?
►
We hear our friend Albert Diaz is coming out with a new CD. We know that anything David Lee or La Mafia puts out will be a quality product.
►
You share the stage with many bands. Which one can you recently played with that you can recommend tejano fans to check out?
►
We like bands that bring a lot of energy and give the fans their money's worth. The Hometown Boys, Gary, Jimmy, & Elida. We were impressed with new bands Retoño & AT Boys.
►
What’s something fun the band likes to do on their off time?
►
We like to sight-see at the towns we travel to. We didn't get to do that back when we were touring back in the day so now we're taking advantage of the sights, sounds, smells & tastes of other states and countries.
►
Being that you are from Houston, TX. What’s a good tourist attraction that you can recommend your fans to check out?
►
I recommend to check out a Texans, Rockets, or Astros game. For shopping the Galleria. Herman Park & NASA.
►
Where can fans find the latest news on Fama?
►
www.famaband.com and www.facebook.com/Famaband and www.myspace.com/grupofama
►
Do you have any last words for your fans?
►
Everything we do, we do with you, the fans in mind. We love and respect our friends and supporters. We always feel like the "industry" does not want us to succeed but we have the power of numbers of fans and grass-roots efforts and can't be denied...all because of our fans who love what we do for them. We recognize and involve our fans in our process but most of all..we listen to them. They listen to us!
