We appreciate you taking the time to star on this weeks “Interview of
the week” section on TejanoFM.com. Where fans get to read about the
thoughts and experiences of new tejano artist and the legends of the
industry. A place where fans can learn a bit of biography on their
favorite artist and get some entertaining insides on their careers.
Here’s a series of fun and informative questions we have just for you!
►
Where is your hometown? What’s a good tourist attraction there?
►
Well my hometown is in Pearsall, Texas. A small town in between San Antonio and Laredo. There is not much that goes on besides the Potato Festival which is a good attraction. If I am not mistaken it is this week if anyone is interested in going!!! :)
►
How long have you been in the tejano music industry?
►
I have been in this industry ever since I began to play the saxophone in the 6th grade. Which I believe was in 2002. So about 10 years!!
►
In the near future you will be releasing a new CD. What can the fans expect?
►
Well my first CD will actually be releasing in about 2 weeks!!! Its called "El Kumbachero". Even though we play everything this CD will consist of 10 original cumbias. I personally think it is a great CD but the only way you will really know if you come out and buy it!!! lol :)
►
What got you into tejano music? What is needed to get more of the young generation listening to the music?
►
Well to be honest a novela that my mom watched got me into the industry!!! haha My mom saw a little girl playing the saxophone and she rushed me over to the TV to see what the saxophone was because she had always loved the way the sax sounds. At that time it was the perfect timing because the following week was when it was time to decide the instrument you would be playing for beginners band!! - I feel that in order to make the younger generation listen to our music is instead of expecting them to get on our level we should go down to thiers!! Young generations want things that can relate to them: excitement, fun, adrenaline, first love and us as artist have to do whatever it takes to make that happen!! :)
►
Who are your greatest musical inspirations?
►
Anyone who has a great attitude and the heart for music is an inspiration to me!!! But the one I can actually say that has inspired me to become where I am at is Don "Fito Olivares". His music has opened my heart to make music of my own!! I really cant thank him enough!!
►
You have played with other groups for many years one including “Fito Olivares” How does it feel playing with such a well known artist? Was the transition difficult from being part of “Fito Olivares” to now your solo career?
►
It was an honor to play with "La Pura Sabrosura." For someone my age to be able to say that they have played with a legend like him is a dream come true. - The transition was pretty hard at first due to fact that I had to start from scratch but making my way up and people actually recognizing me from playing with Fito Olivares has helped me alot!!
►
Do you have an all time favorite performance? Where was it and why is it your favorite?
►
I really can not say I have a favorite performance. Each time I play ends up being my favorite performance just because its not only a new experience but a learning experience!!
►
What is something most of your fans might not know about you?
►
Hmm... thats a tough one!! lol Maybe that I also play keyboards, drums, congas, or any type of sax you put in front of me!!! lol
►
Which tejano band would you like to see do a comeback tour?
►
One of my favorite tejano artist would have to "Elsa Garcia" I believe if she would come back she would have a wonderful turn out at each of her shows!!! She is an amazing artist and has such a beautiful voice!!
►
